Quilted Sneaker Class!
Sign up before November 27th to secure your spot! We need to know your shoe size no later than the 27th as well, as these come from Germany and take up to 10 weeks to arrive. You will get to choose between Low top, Mid top, and High top sneakers, and there will be homework that is required to be done prior to attending the class. (mentioned below)
They are European sizes, so be sure to check your sizing correctly.
You will need to bring your sewing machine with straight stitch and zig zag stitch in working order.
You will need 3 Fat Quarters of coordinating fabrics, 1 1/4 yd of SF 101 Pellon Fusible, 1 Fat Quarter of Soft and Stable, Marking tools such as a Frixion pen that is visible on the fabric, paper scissors and small sharp pointed fabric scissors, Wonder clips, pins, thread to match binding fabric, seam ripper, Size 90/14 needle for applying the binding, Medium sized AWL for punching small holes in the fabric and shoe base (we will have these supplies available for purchase at the store) Fray check, and a book light or flexible Ott light will be helpful as well.
If you need a shoe size that is larger than a size 40, it is recommended to use a bit larger piece of fabric than just a Fat Quarter to allow for the extra length, approximately an 18"x23" piece. It is also recommended to use smaller prints and allow extra fabric if fussy cutting or using directional fabric.
Cotton quilting fabrics work the best, but you can use any tightly woven fabric such as a lightweight denim, Chambray, or washable wool blends.
Fabrics that do not breathe are NOT recommended.
We will have shoe strings available for purchase as well. 45" will work for low tops, 54"-60" is needed for mid top or high tops.
HOMEWORK: MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO ATTENDING CLASS
Apply the SF 101 to the Wrong Side of the Exterior Fabric And to your Lining Fabric. Sandwich the Soft and Stable in between these two layers and quilt using 1" diagonal lines. A stitch length of 2.5mm works best, and Good Quality Polyester thread holds up better for wearability.
Cut the binding fabric on the Bias (diagonally) into 1.75" strips and sew the strips together.
